Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy and a relaxed finish on Mirissa beach. The classic introduction to Sri Lanka.
This journey pairs the archaeological heart of Sri Lanka with the turquoise water of the south. It opens with the climb up Sigiriya in soft morning light, takes you through the Dambulla cave temples and Kandy's Temple of the Tooth, and closes with five restorative days on the beach. Ideal if you want to discover the country and properly slow down.
Itinerary
Day 1 · Negombo
Airport welcome, transfer to your hotel in Negombo. If you're up for it: a stroll at the fish market in the evening light.
Day 2 · Dambulla
Drive into the Cultural Triangle. Afternoon visit to the golden cave temples of Dambulla — a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991.
Day 3 · Sigiriya
Very early start at Sigiriya to beat the heat and the crowds. Afternoon: choose between Polonnaruwa or the quieter Pidurangala.
Day 4 · Kandy
On the way to Kandy, a stop at the Pinnawala elephant orphanage. Evening: the Sinhala dance performance at the cultural centre.
Day 5 · Kandy
Morning at Sri Dalada Maligawa, one of Buddhism's most sacred sites. Afternoon at Peradeniya — 60 hectares of tropical flora.
Day 6 · Mirissa
Drive through the hills down to the sea. Arrival in Mirissa in the afternoon. First sundowner on the beach.
Day 7 · Mirissa
Between December and April you can spot blue and sperm whales off Mirissa. If you'd rather do nothing — also a fine choice.

Half-day trip to colonial Galle Fort — a UNESCO site with Dutch townhouses and a 19th-century lighthouse.
Day 9 · Mirissa
Last full day — free for rest, yoga or a cooking class with a local family.

Transfer to Colombo airport. We say goodbye with a cup of Ceylon tea and a heartfelt see-you-soon.
